EAST MIDLANDS’ FIRST MAKI & RAMEN OPENS AT HIGHCROSS LEICESTER

Award-winning restaurant, Maki & Ramen, has officially opened its doors at Highcross Leicester, bringing bold, authentic Japanese flavours to the city centre.

The first of its kind in the East Midlands and located in St. Peter’s Square, the new 3,340 sq ft restaurant welcomes guests with a menu that includes rich Tonkotsu ramen and hand-rolled sushi, to sashimi, donburi rice bowls and Japanese small plates.

True to the brand’s immersive aesthetic, indoor diners will enjoy meals beneath cascading sakura blossoms, surrounded by sleek rose gold interiors and the rhythmic sound-scape of the Taiko drum beats - a nod to Japan’s vibrant culinary culture.

As well as being able to dine alfresco, just in time for summer, diners will also enjoy a drinks menu that includes the brand’s signature Makibiru larger and creative cocktails and mocktails infused with matcha, yuzu, lychee and other Japanese-inspired flavours.

On its opening, Highcross Leicester’s Centre Director, Michelle Menezes, said:

“We’re thrilled to see Maki & Ramen officially open at Highcross, bringing an immersive dining experience that goes far beyond the plate. It’s an experience that we know our visitors will love, as it’s a celebration of culture, craft and culinary creativity; three things that, as a city, Leicester is widely known for. With its vibrant aesthetic and dedication to authentic flavours, Maki & Ramen is exactly the kind of dynamic, high-quality brand we’re proud to bring to the city.

“It’s been brilliant to see just how many brands have put their faith in Leicester so far this year - not only investing in us as a centre, but also the wider city, helping to drive footfall and create a welcoming, vibrant atmosphere for everyone. In doing so, we’re able to breathe new life into St. Peter’s Square; an area that we know has the potential to be a hub of the city, for foodies and shoppers alike, once more. So, keep your eyes peeled for further announcements soon!”

Maki & Ramen joins a range of existing food offerings at the centre, including YO! Sushi, Wagamama, Pho and Turtle Bay, as well as a selection of grab and go operators like Greggs, Auntie Anne’s Bakery and Slim Chickens.

Now, Maki & Ramen has joined the fold. Founded 10 years ago by Teddy Lee, the brand began with a simple mission: to bring authentic, soul-warming Japanese dishes to the UK, using time-honoured techniques.

Hot off the heels of other announcements, including Newcastle and Manchester, Teddy Lee, Founder and CEO of Maki & Ramen, added:

“We’re incredibly excited to open in Leicester; a city that already has such a diverse food culture. From our house-made ramen broth to each individually rolled piece of sushi, everything we do is about celebrating the art of Japanese cuisine and creating memorable moments for our guests. I know our Leicester visitors are going to love it.”
