Free sport and fitness events this August

Highcross Leicester is turning up the heat this August with a month-long celebration of sport, featuring a series of free masterclasses, interactive challenges and pop-up experiences for all ages.

Running from 2nd - 24th August, the centre will come alive with a packed programme of activities including basketball and football challenges, virtual reality games, Hotpod yoga, HIIT classes, Tai Chi and energetic dance workshops.

Hosted by skilled experts and members from professional sporting groups, the sessions are free-to-attend and open to all ages. They include:

  • Basketball games with Leicester Riders: Between 11am – 3:30pm on Saturday 2 August, members of the public can take on the ‘Beat the Coach’ challenge hosted by the Leicester Riders basketball team. Fans also have the opportunity to take a photo with the Riders’ mascot and the 2025 Super League Basketball Playoff trophy at St Peter’s Square.
  • LCFC in the community: Between 10am – 12:30pm on Tuesday 12 and Tuesday 19 August, Leicester City Football Club in the community programme will be running interactive games featuring an inflatable target net to practice scoring goals and learning new football skills.
  • Football showcase with the Leicestershire and Rutland FA: On Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 August, visitors can try their luck at a virtual reality interactive football challenge, while watching a live refereeing demo at St Peter’s Square.
  • Team fun with Leicester Tigers: On 6 August you can play spin the wheel, sporting games and there may be a surprise visit from some familiar faces too.
  • Workout with Brotherhood Legion CIC: Between 12pm – 5pm on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 August, visitors can enjoy a series of workout and wellness classes, with a mix of HIIT, Tai Chi and Hotpod yoga sessions, hosted by Brotherhood Legion CIC. As well as physical activity, visitors can take part in affirmation sessions to channel those relaxed summer vibes.
  • Dance workshops with Studio 79 DanceBetween 11am – 2pm on Friday 22 August, a series of dance workshops and special flashmob performances will be held by Studio 79 Dance to get everyone up and moving.

Alongside the scheduled masterclasses, shoppers are encouraged to test out their own sporting skills at the centre’s themed pop-up sporting stations, found on the East Square from 2 August, including table tennis, seated football and a hopping challenge.

“With the UK basking in summer sunshine and Wimbledon, along with the fantastic achievement of the Lionesses at the Women’s Euro’s, International cricket and the British Grand Prix all setting the tone and getting our summer sporting fever going, we’re thrilled to play our part in bringing the community together through sport.

“Whether visitors are looking to try something new, stay active during the holidays or just enjoy some fun with friends, we’ve got a fantastic lineup of sporting experts offering a dynamic range of masterclasses. There truly is something for everyone, regardless of age, ability or interest.
