About Festival of Archaeology 2024 @ John Lewis Leicester

Enjoy our exhibition ‘Life in Roman and Medieval Leicester Towns’ created by the University of Leicester Archaeological Services, accompanied by a display of archaeological artefacts. Each weekend we will also be joined by local heritage groups running activities and showcasing their finds.

29th & 30th June - Meet the Fieldworkers 11am - 4pm

Find out more about local fieldwork and opportunities to get involved, whilst having the chance to view some of the recent finds.

6th & 7th July - The Prehistoric Workshop 11am - 4pm

Join local experimental archaeologists as they showcase their Prehistoric Workshop with reconstructed prehistoric flint tools, textiles and pottery.

13th & 14th July - Leicester Cathedral Revealed 11am - 4pm

Come and meet the team from University of Leicester Archaeological Services and Leicester Cathedral who will explain the discoveries made during the building of the new visitor learning centre.

20th & 21st July - Oadby & Wigston Field walking Group 11am - 4pm

The Oadby and Wigston Fieldworkers will be displaying recent field walking finds along with hosting children’s crafting activities including mosaic making.

27th July - Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society 11am - 4pm

A chance to meet the Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society – Leicestershire’s oldest archaeological society. Find out what they do and how you can get involved.
